Abstract

The research aims to socially evaluate the impact of climate change on the deterioration of agricultural lands for the Bedouins of the villages of Marsa Matrouh Center in Matrouh Governorate, through identifying the impact of climate change on the social conditions of farmers, including identifying the social problems resulting from climate change, monitoring the impact of high temperature on humans, identifying... Means of mitigation and social adaptation, identifying the necessary proposals to address social problems resulting from climate change. The research hypotheses included that there is no statistically significant correlation between some of the independent variables studied and the social problems resulting from climate change.
A personal interview questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 400 respondents from the villages of Marsa Matrouh Center, and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. This study relied on the social scientific survey approach through intentional sampling.
The most important results of the research showed the following: 1. The social problems resulting from climate change occupied a high percentage of the weighted average percentage, which led to the displacement of many farmers and herders to work in other jobs within cities due to the lack of natural resources. 2. The results showed an increase in the impact of temperature on humans by High than the weighted average percentage, this led to an increase in the rates of infection with many diseases. 3. As for the proposals, the response to the need to raise the health awareness of the Bedouins to resist epidemics came in first place with a high weighted average percentage, which demonstrates the assistance of the proposals in solving social problems. Conclusion: It is necessary to conduct a social assessment of the impact of climate change on the degradation of agricultural lands in the Marsa Matrouh region so that safe mitigation and adaptation methods and programs can be reached for the Bedouin community.
Based on the results, the research recommends working to establish many social ties that will strengthen social relations and through which aid can be provided and bear the damages and consequences of the effects of climate change, and work to implement long and short-term plans towards diversifying sources of income for Bedouin families through some development projects.
