EFFECTIVENESSOF A PROPOSED COUNSELING PROGRAMFOR MODIFICATIONOF FAMILY ATTITUDESTOWARDS SCHIZOPHRENIC PATIENTS AND DEVELOPINGTHEIR SOCIAL SKILLS - AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY

Abstract

This study aims topreparecounseling program for the families womenSchizophrenic patients to form positive attitudes towards their patients,identify effectiveness the counseling program for modification the family attitudes,prepare training program for the development the social skills for schizophrenic women patients and identify its effectiveness to development of social skills. In this study, 20 of women paranoid schizophrenic patients(Mental Health Hospital at Abbasia) and their caregivers'families were used. These patients were divided into two groups(control and experimental), each group consists of 10 patients. This study is used"Coloured Progressive Matrices"(John Raven).The researchers have prepared the mentoring program for modification the family attitudes,family attitudes scale, social skills program and social skills scale. This study proved that the reliability and validity of the usedmeasurement. The results of this study indicated that there is a significant difference between family attitudes before and after applies the counseling program.There is a significant difference between the control and the experimental groups in family attitudes and between the social performances level before and after apply the social skills program. There is a significant difference between the control and the experimental groups in the social performances level. The results have been discussed in the light of the theoretical and the applied theories, and its conformity with the previous studies.
