THE STYLE OF TREATMENT OF PARENTS’ OF CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL PALSY AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO THEIR PSYCHOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPATIBILITY

Abstract

The aim of this research was to explore the impact of parenting styles of fathers and mothers of children with cerebral palsy on the psychological and environmental adjustment of these children, as well as to explore the differences between the sexes in terms of (gender and age). Using the descriptive-comparative approach, to achieve the research objectives, the parenting styles scale in its two forms (father's and mother's), the Wechsler Intelligence Scale-4, and the psychological and environmental adjustment scale were relied upon. The research sample was determined by simple random sampling of children with cerebral palsy in the age group between (6-12) years, who visit the psychiatry clinic at Demerdash Hospital. Also, a sample of fathers and mothers of these children with cerebral palsy who visit the psychiatry clinic at Demerdash Hospital was selected. The most important results of the research were: The indicators of (discrimination, overprotection, and control and domination) of parenting styles (father's and mother's) negatively affect the psychological and environmental adjustment of children with cerebral palsy. The most abnormal parenting styles that have a negative impact on the psychological and environmental adjustment of children with cerebral palsy are the styles of (distinction, control and domination, and oscillation), while the most positively impacting parenting styles is the style of (normal parenting).
