Abstract

The research aims to extract an assessment of the social and environmental impact of development projects in the Qarun Lake region by studying the natural and human characteristics and the environmental problems that are considered the optimal outcome to express the interaction between the environment and humans. The research addressed the most important development projects in the region to determine their most important positive and negative impacts on the environment and society by designing a questionnaire form to determine the degree of impact of these projects on people.  A set of results were achieved, the most important of which is that the environmental situation of the lake is getting worse due to the exacerbation of water and air pollution. Although some improvement has appeared in the salinity levels of the lake, this is due to the tendency of some projects to extract salt from the lake for use in economic purposes and benefit from it. On the side of the built urban environment, it has witnessed a difference in the impact on it between positive and negative, as an effective impact has appeared for some promotional campaigns that have led to a revival of ecotourism, such as The Eco Egypt campaign and the social environment also witnessed varying impacts, ranging from positive to negative. as it witnessed some developments in the levels of public health for individuals, as well as entertainment facilities. On the negative side, it witnessed an increase in crowding rates, in addition to the impact on some values, customs, and traditions.
