Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the importance of using the meaning building strategy (K-W-L-H) in teaching home economics and developing environmental awareness and critical thinking among first-year preparatory school students at the Sixth District Model Girls Institute for Preparatory Azhari in Cairo. To achieve this, the study used the descriptive approach and the experimental approach with pre- and post-measurements. Tools were applied after verifying their scientific stability, represented by an achievement test for the cognitive aspect of environmental awareness, a scale for the emotional aspect of developing environmental awareness, a scale for the behavioral aspect of developing environmental awareness, and a test for developing critical thinking skills. The study group's scores were statistically processed using the (t-test) test, the correlation coefficient, and the regression coefficient to test the study hypotheses. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the study sample in the two applications (pre- and post-) for the total score of the achievement test for the cognitive aspect of developing environmental awareness in favor of the application (post-). The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the study sample in the two applications (pre-Measurement recommended adopting the use of the meaning-building strategy in teaching various subjects prescribed for female students in the preparatory stage at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.
