THE IMPACT OF DATE DRYING AND PACKAGING UNITS ON SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE NEW VALLEY GOVERNORATE

Abstract

Agricultural industrialization plays an important role in the development of the national economy, as agricultural industries are one of the manufacturing industries that depend on raw agricultural materials, using different production methods to produce various types of goods, which aims to transform raw materials into high-value products through the manufacturing process, including Dates industry. The Egyptian date drying and packaging industry has occupied an important economic position in the food industry sector in Egypt in general, and in the New Valley Governorate in particular. The number of date drying and packaging units in New Valley Governorate reached 80 units during the year 2023, from which a sample of   units was drawn to achieve the research objectives.  The problem and objectives of the research are to measure the impact of date drying and packaging units on sustainable and environmental development in the New Valley Governorate. The research concluded the positive impact of date drying and packaging units on sustainable and environmental development in New Valley Governorate. Based on the results obtained, the research recommended the following: Interest in expanding date drying and packaging units, given the proven financial and economic feasibility of these production units. Establishing such investment projects to support the national economy and advance the economic development process, to provide job opportunities for many workers, thus contributing to solving the unemployment problem. Recycling waste from date drying, packing, and manufacturing units, such as pits, fibers, and bad sorted dates, and using them in the production of animal feed to preserve the environment.
