Abstract

The aim of the research is to develop environmental literacy and environmental participation among second-grade primary school students. To achieve this goal, the research used an experimental approach and experimental design for both the experimental and control groups with pre- and post-measurements. The research tools included the development of a content analysis tool for the "Discover" curriculum for the first semester, constructed based on a list of dimensions of environmental literacy and environmental participation suitable for the second-grade curriculum. Subsequently, an illustrated environmental literacy scale was developed, consisting of a visual test for measuring environmental knowledge and concepts, a visual scale for measuring environmental attitudes, and a visual scale for measuring environmental problem-solving.Additionally, an illustrated scale was constructed to measure environmental participation among second-grade primary school students. After verifying the scientific validity and reliability of the test and scales, they were experimentally applied to a group of second-grade students at Al-Farouk Islamic Language School in Cairo using virtual reality tools.Upon analyzing the results, statistically significant differences were found between the pre- and post-application average scores for the test and scales in favor of the experimental group. The research recommends the use of virtual reality tools to enhance environmental literacy and environmental participation among second-grade primary school students due to the effective impact of these tools on students.
