Abstract

The research aimed to reach a study of integrated and sustainable waste management in Egypt by applying the concept of the circular economy (a case study of waste accumulation in Egypt), a systematic study of the current situation of waste in Egypt by logically linking quantitative information on waste. The research used the descriptive and quantitative method to calculate indicators. Efficiency of using waste collection and recycling (2022-2042) Hence the importance of research in calculating more accurate and clear indicators using a case study to identify the efficiency of waste recycling of various types. The problem of the study explains that the amount of municipal waste (garbage) generated across the governorates of the Republic is increasing daily, While the Council of Ministers’ study and decision-making support indicated that the amount of solid waste is growing annually, and the sources of waste vary between agricultural waste, solid and liquid waste, and industrial waste, which causes many environmental damages resulting from the presence and misuse of industrial-agricultural waste, whether by burning or dumping this waste. In addition to canals and drains, it can be said that the largest source of solid waste in Egypt for 30 years is municipal waste or garbage generated from the residential sector, the commercial sector, shops, and all humanitarian activities, explaining that the volume generated, according to the latest census, is no less than 26 million tons. annually from municipal solid waste, which constituted an obstacle and a problem starting from the source of production of this waste until its safe disposal. The results of the research indicated the application of cost-benefit criteria and choosing the most appropriate alternatives that can be applied. Giza Governorate was chosen to identify cases and study alternatives for waste recycling. The research recommended several of the recommendations.
