A PROPOSED STRATEGY FOR ACADEMIC STANDARDS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN EGYPTIAN UNIVERSITIES IN THE LIGHT OF EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The research aimed to verify a proposed strategy for academic standards for environmental education in Egyptian universities in the light of education for sustainable development, the researchers have used functional theories of environmental education and sustainable development (functional constructivism, imperative school, school possibility, role, social system, personality pattern), this study group has consisted of (73) single university professors (18 public universities – 2 private universities – Al-Azhar University – Academy of Arts) researchers have used the approach (descriptive analytical - educational survey) where the tools Used in the questionnaire form and a list of environmental education standards in Egyptian universities prepared by researchers with the aim of developing a proposed strategy for academic standards for environmental education in light of education for sustainable development.
The research reached several results, the most important of which are:

A set of academic standards for environmental education in the light of education for sustainable development achieved a high level of approval among environmental education experts consisting of forty-three standards divided into six axes.
A proposed strategy for academic standards for environmental education in the light of education for sustainable development that included exposure to the philosophy and objectives of the proposed strategy with a presentation of its premises, postulates, characteristics, features, mechanisms, and components of its implementation.

The researchers recommend applying the proposed strategy for academic standards for environmental education in Egyptian universities in the light of education for sustainable development, which seeks to achieve the objectives of forecasting - adaptation to variables - facing the repercussions of variables - achieving quality - achieving discrimination.
