THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PARTICIPATORY JOURNALISM THROUGH THE SOCIAL NETWORK FACEBOOK IN DEVELOPING ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract

The study aimed to measure the effectiveness of participatory journalism through the social network face book in developing environmental responsibility among university students, a page has been prepared on the social networking site face book (the environment is your responsibility) to practice participatory journalism across the page with the aim of developing some dimensions of environmental responsibility among university students. The study tools consisted of a questionnaire on the effectiveness of participatory journalism, which aims to collect data and information. About the researched individuals to obtain from them certain ideas and opinions that help the researcher in preparing the appropriate content, including photos, videos, topics and comments on various environmental events, through which it is possible to attract the interest of university youth towards the environment and inculcate a sense of environmental responsibility in them, in addition to a measure of environmental responsibility that includes for dimensions (environmental knowledge – orientation towards – responsible environmental behaviours – guidance to solve environmental problems and make the right decision). The semi-experimental approach was used on a selected group of (30) male and female students at Ain Shams University. They were chosen equally between males and females in an intentional manner, and the pre and post scale were used on the same group. The study reached a number of results, including:
There is a statistically significant correlation between participatory journalism as a networked media and environmental responsibility among the study sample, and there are statistically significant differences between the pre and post application of the environmental responsibility scale and favor of the post application. A set of recommendations were presented including the use of participatory journalism in developing environmental responsibility among students at different academic levels.
