THE ROLE OF ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION AND AWARENESS DEPARTMENT IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AGENCY IN ASSUIT IN DEVELOPING THE ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY OF THE UPPER EGYPTIAN PUBLIC

Abstract






This current research drives at developing environmental literacy among the Upper Egyptian public, by measuring the effectiveness of the Management of Media and Environmental Culture in the Environmental Affairs Agency. This research belongs to the descriptive type of studies. The researcher aims to describe and analyze the role played by the Department of Information, Culture and Environmental Awareness in the Environmental Affairs Agency in developing environmental awareness among the Upper Egypt public. The study uses several tools such as the content analysis form, preparing a list of the environmental literacy dimensions and a scale of environmental literacy at its three levels (environmental knowledge and information - environmental attitudes - problem solving and environmental decision-making). The sample consists of (30) items of the Upper Egypt audience in (Menia, Assiut, Sohag) governorates.
The research is summed up with a number of results as follows:

There is a statistically significant difference between average scores of the experimental group on the scale of environmental literacy pre/post its exposure to the activities of the Environmental Information and Awareness Department of the Environmental Affairs Agency in Assiut, in favor of the post application.
There is a statistically significant difference between average scores of the experimental group on the environmental knowledge test pre/post exposure to the activities of the Environmental Information and Awareness Department of the Environmental Affairs Agency in Assiut, in favor of the post application.
There is a statistically significant difference between average scores of the experimental group on the scale of environmental attitudes pre/post exposure to the activities of the Environmental Information and Awareness Department of the Environmental Affairs Agency, Assiut, in favor of the post application.
