ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS IN CONFRONTING POVERTY (A FIELD STUDY IN URBAN LOCAL COMMUNITY)

Abstract

The study aimed at identifying role of civil society organizations in confronting poverty phenomenon in the Egyptian society and effectiveness extent of this role through identifying nature of followed mechanisms and strategies in the organizations and unveiling presented program nature by civil society organizations for targeted categories to limit poverty problem, the researcher applied (meeting)tool on a sample consisting of (50) subjects of managers and employees of sectors and units in Masr El-Kheir institutions in addition to coordinators of field work and volunteers in the institution, the descriptive methodology and social survey by sample methodology were used. Study results concluded that civil society organizations play an active developmental role in the society through the diversity of their programs offered to poor groups in many life fields "social solidarity field – health field – education field and offered services for those with special needs and the elderly, integrated development programs and other projects and the programs that aim at achieving sustainable development objectives in the society particularly local societies.the study suggested activating role of media and leaderships to enhance role of societal participation for achieved developmental activities for sustainable development aims and developing it more effectively, expanding support to civil society institutions especially in marginalized areas and governorates of Upper Egypt.
