Abstract

The current study aimed to assess the role of consumer protection associations in protecting the environmental rights of citizens and to identify the role of associations among citizens and the effectiveness of their role in preserving their rights and interests. The field study sample consisted of (345) citizens consuming goods and services in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and an interview was conducted. With counting (4) of the officials in the Consumer Protection Agency, the method of social recording and the case study method were used, and statistical analysis was done to analyze the necessary information and data based on the study tools (questionnaire form and interview guide).
The study reached some results, the most important of which is the existence of a relationship Correlation between the academic qualification and the degree of awareness of the Egyptian consumer. The results also indicated that few consumer citizens have knowledge of the existence of associations working in the field of consumer protection in Egypt. They also indicated that citizens are not satisfied with the role of these associations and the inefficiency and effectiveness of their role in receiving complaints or in preserving their rights. The study also suggested that the Egyptian government work to strengthen and activate the role of consumer protection associations and to strengthen this role in the governorates. It also sets a specific framework that all parties abide by in the consumption process, and educates citizens about the ways and methods of safe consumption, especially through electronic means of consumption. The study also proposes the development of a specific framework to define the principles of environmental rights for citizens that consumer protection associations adhere to, based on the protection of health, public safety and food safety, and how to review the health and quality of products in the market.
