Abstract

The current study aimed to measure the effectiveness of a program in reducing the level of intellectual extremism among university students, training in coping techniques, and developing solutions to reduce intellectual extremism that will help reduce societal violence, whether religious or social. The sample consisted of 21 persons, the experimental group to which the program was applied. The researchers used an experimental method. The data collected on the SPSS statistical program were analyzed to ascertain the veracity and consistency of the tools, using the study tools, “thought extremes and big five factors of personality. The study found that:
there are significant statistical differences in the level of intellectual extremes in the experimental sample of university students as they respond to program on pre, sequential, post measurement.
There is a significant statistical relation between both intellectual extremes and the five major factors of personality in the study sample. The top five personality factors also contribute to predicting the level of intellectual extremes in the experimental sample. Researchers have recommended that mentoring programs should be developed and training in acceptable behavioral patterns should be developed in order to develop their capacity to deal with the mentoring program from which they benefit, in order to maximize their use and in order to develop their capacity to overcome extremist thinking. Governmental and non-governmental institutions that work to combat extremism should use psychologists and social workers to implement their program more consciously and comprehensively, which could help to improve the effectiveness of the results of the mentoring program
