The art of the novel and its impact on the development of environmental enlightenment for Egyptian women

Abstract

This research’s purpose is to develop the environmental literacy and thinking skills of the Egyptian woman reader through the art of the novel, reviewing also, a dramatic enlightening novel that includes a presentation of environmental problems and their solutions. In order to achieve this goal, previous studies and research related to the topic of the research and the path of its application have been reviewed and examined. The research is based on the method, and an enlightening dramatic novel has been prepared concerning life problems, including environmental problems and their solutions in the context of a sequential narrative and telling, with the aim of developing environmental literacy and thinking skills and solving environmental problems for Egyptian women. A scale of environmental literacy and thinking skill is used for (identifying the environmental problem and solving them), in attempt to define the extent of the impact of the novel on environmental literacy of Egyptian women in order to achieve the objectives of the research. The application has been carried out at Ain Shams University and in a hall in the Egyptian Book Authority on the research sample that consists of (22) females. A pre-application of the scale of literacy and thinking skills test was done on the experimental group before they were exposed to reading the novel, then they were given a month to read the novel. After they finished reading it, the scale of literacy and the Post-mental skills test were applied to the same research group, where the research is concluded with a number of results, where the most important of which are, there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group, regarding the pre/post application of the environmental knowledge test, in favor of the post application. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group, regarding the pre/post application for testing the environmental attitudes, in favor of the post application. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group, regarding the pre/post application for testing the thinking skills (identifying the environmental problem), in favor of the post application. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group, regarding the pre/post application for testing the thinking skills (environmental problem solving), in favor of the post application.
