A PROPOSED PROGRAM TO DEVELOP SOME ELEMENTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY TO THE HOME CARE INSTITUTIONS'SUPERVISORS AND ITS IMPACT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOR FOR CHILD

Abstract

The research aims to develop some elements of environmental Litreacy for the supervisors of social care homes, and also aims to identify the effect of acquiring elements of environmental Litreacy among supervisors on the environmental behavior of children of these homes. For this purpose, the descriptive research method was used to analyze the content of the programs for preparing care home supervisors. and also, the experimental research method which has the one experimental group was used to identify the effectiveness of the proposed program in the development of environmental Litreacy among supervisors of social care homes. To this end, a list of the most important environmental issues and problems that the supervisors of social care homes need and that can be included in an educational program were prepared. Then the content of the documents of the on-the-job training programs for supervisors of social care homes was analyzed to determine the extent to which they included some elements of environmental literacy or not. A measure of environmental literacy has been prepared with the most important environmental issues and problems to be developed for supervisors of social care homes. Then an educational program was prepared that aims at acquiring the supervisors some elements of literacy, which are (environmental information, environmental Attitudes, environmental problem-solving skills), as well as a measure of environmental behavior for children in social care homes. And check their sincerity and stability. The environmental Litreacy scale was applied first to one experimental group, then the program was taught to the experimental group, then the scale was applied later.
The results showed that there were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the study group as a whole in the environmental Literacy scale, which reflects the acquisition of the elements of environmental Literacy by the supervisors of social care homes, which were presented by the program. The environmental behavior scale was also applied to the children of social care homes, before and after, through the supervisors, after teaching them the educational program. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the study group of children as a whole on the environmental behavior scale, which reflects the modification of children’s behavior after the supervisors taught them environmental activities, and this was confirmed by the existence of a positive correlation between the scores obtained by the supervisors of social care homes in the environmental Literacy test and the scores obtained by the children of care homes in the environmental behavior scale as a whole, as well as in all its sections, after applying the program proposed by the supervisors. This program can be used when preparing programs related to environmental issues and problems for different sectors of society.
The research recommended that the quality standards for social care homes in the Ministry of Social Solidarity include a clear and detailed environmental dimension for all sections of social care homes and their functional categories. This enables care home administrations to continuously assess the environmental situation inside and outside it, and work to include it in the implementation plans of these homes. And also, recommended to take advantage of the tools of this research.
