Partially de-aluminated metakaolinite (PDK) is a by-product of Aluminum Sulphate Co. of Egypt (ASCE) plant. PDK contains considerable amounts of active silicate. This study, examines the production of light-weight, made out of the PDK and lime. Cubic brick samples were produced through steam curing of the blend (70gm PDK, 15 gm cement, 10 gm quick lime, 2 gm gypsum, and 0.085 gm aluminum powder) in an autoclave in order to give the highest compressive strength (5 mPa) and water absorption 63%.
The findings of this paper suggest that the PDK solid waste can be used instead of the sand for the production of light weight bricks, resulting in reduction of the environmental pollution of that solid waste. The energy consumed in the production of lightweight bricks is only a fraction compared to the production of conventional bricks.
