Abstract

The absence of sustainable energy strategies in Egypt (or implementation mechanisms), has led to unsustainability of energy in Egypt. The development of energy strategies based on the strategic planning approach, which leads to achieving balance among social, economic and environmental elements for  the sustainability of energy This has not been achieved in Egypt for many reasons including the difficulty of dealing with the complex system of energy as well as the sophisticated techniques required to develop energy strategies, that are recently monopolized by  some world known consulting houses using differential equations and advanced programs for large computers at very  high cost.
This research has developed a simple but accurate technique to develop sustainable energy strategy using strategic planning approach through the use of different scenarios to cope with the great number of variables) and developed a mathematical model that can be solved on  personal computers using  step-by-step technique. The proposed approach is accurate and flexible in a way that the strategic track can be remaped according to any changes in the variables. This approach and its mathematical model have been applied to develop a strategic planning of total energy and electrical energy in Egypt until 2030.
