PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL PROBLEMS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION FOR ZAGAZIG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN MALES AND FEMALES

Abstract

This current study drives at exploring the psychological and physical problems and their relation to achievement motivation. The study sample consists of (200) male/female students from Zagazig university from different theoretical and scientific faculties. The researcher has used the descriptive (qualitative)-correlative-comparative method for being the most appropriate one for current study. The researcher uses Scale of Feeling of Psychological Problems (by Amal Mohamed, 2008), Scale of Motivation for Achievement (by Omar Farouq, 2002), Scale of Achievement Motivation Behavior (by Michael bahmis, 2008), Scale of School Environment (by Ibrahim El-Shafae, 2000), Scale of Study Stress (by Abdel Baset, 1998), and Scale of School Environment Stress (by Medhat Samir, 2002). The researcher has used Scale of Psychological Problems in its three dimensions (anxiety-feeling lonely – poor self-confidence). The researcher has come to several results:
There is a significant reversing relationship between feeling anxious and achievement motivation.
There is a significant reversing relationship between feeling lonely and achievement motivation.
There is a significant direct relationship between feeling poor self-confidence and achievement motivation. There are also significant statistical differences between males and females regarding the dimension of anxiety, in favor of females. The study has several recommendations:

There should be specialized centers to concern with university youth and their problems, suggesting also counseling programs to deal with problems in terms of the free cultural, cognitive, and scientific movement exists in this country.
The university should hold special programs for university students to train them on necessary required skills to assist them improve their communication to their society, develop, and raise their achievement motivation in various scientific fields in future.
Training university youth to fulfill their leadership roles in situations that cope with their potentials and abilities.
