A COUNSELING PROGRAM FOR DEVELOPING ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OUT OF DRUGS AMONG YOUTH IN SLUMS

Abstract

This current study drives at developing environmental and social responsibility to reduce the spread out of drugs among the youth of slum areas  through a counseling program. For achieving this goal, previous studies and research related to the subject of the study have been tackled and used, in addition to some research tools that would be beneficial to the current study.
The study relies on the quasi-experimental approach, using some tools such as a questionnaire form to conduct the exploratory study to determine and examine the current condition of environmental and social responsibility for the study sample. The study also seeks preparing a proposed scenario and concept for the counseling program aims at developing environmental and social responsibility, and preparing a scale for environmental and social responsibility that has been intended to determine the extent to which the objectives of the counseling program have been achieved and checking its validity and reliability to the research group. The sample consists of (40) male/female youth living in the slums in Cairo Governorate, in Egypt. A pre/post application of the program has been conducted using the scale of environmental and social responsibility on the experimental group in addition to activities of the proposed program, and then a post-application has been made by the end of the program. The study comes to these results, the most important of which are:

There is a statistically significant difference at (0.05) significance level between youth’s average scores on scale of environmental responsibility pre/post application of the program, in favor of the post-application.
There is a statistically significant difference at (0.05) significance level between youth’s average scores on scale of social responsibility pre/post application of the program, in favor of the post-application.

The most important recommendations of the study come as follows:

Diffusing awareness of developing environmental and social responsibility in the various education stages and integrate it into the school curriculum.
Preparing a training course for specialists and professionals in various different fields and specialties that will include the proposed counseling program under study and training.
