Abstract

The study aims to identify the development of the number of cattle heads slaughtered in the governmental slaughterhouses in Greater Cairo governorates by analyzing the data of livestock statistics issued by the Economic Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. The data presented for analysis were in three tables each of which includes 10 years of data (2007-2016) for five interrelated entities: Cairo Governorate, Qalioubia Governorate, Giza Governorate, and the total of Greater Cairo and the entire Republic.
The study was based on quantitative analysis methods. Numerous mathematical and statistical methods (e.g. average and regression) were used. The study was based primarily on the data on slaughtered head counts of large local cattle, those of local cattle calves, and those of imported cattle.

It was found that at the level of the three Greater Cairo Governorates for the number of slaughtered cattle heads, Cairo topped for the small cattle calves, and Qalyubia for both domestic large and imported cattle. At the level of Greater Cairo, the highest peak of slaughter was 233,427 heads for small cattle calves, 11,293 heads for large domestic cattle, and 22,818 heads for imported cattle. The only significant annual increase in Greater Cairo was for slaughtered cattle heads  (+ 42%).
