THE POTENTIAL IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE EGYPTIAN TOURISM SECTOR

Abstract

The Egyptian tourism sector considers as a vital sector in the Egyptian economy. Egypt owns wide range of tourist attractions, such as distinguished natural environments, a huge number of monuments and beautiful worm beaches, which diversify tourism types to include recreational and cultural heritage tourism, environmental, medical, and religious tourism, and other elements. Despite this diversification of tourism type, the Egyptian tourism sector faced several crises that cause a major drawback such as 2011 to 2018 period. the Egyptian tourism sector start to recover in 2019 then the Corona pandemic in 2020 led to a decrease in Egyptian tourism growth by 67% during the year 2020 furthermore other challenges to come as the Russian-Ukrainian war start in February 2022 which will have a significant impact on the decline in Egyptian tourism growth during This year.

The other crisis expected to affect the tourism sector badly is climate change that will cause sea surface raise, temperature increase and loss of the biodiversity and coral reef

Because of the severity of the damage that can by caused by climate changes, the study will investigate the potential impact of climate changes on the Egyptian tourism sector and the importance of cooperation with the international community to maintain environmental quality, reduce the effects of these climate changes and develop the necessary policies and programs to adapt to the effects of these climatic phenomena.
