ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH NATURAL GAS FIELDS IN PORT SAID GOVERNORATE AND THEIR REPERCUSSIONS ON THE SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF NEIGHBORING VILLAGES

Abstract

This study illustrates some of the environmental problems resulting from the natural gas fields in Port Said Governorate, where natural gas is collected , processed and distribution , the formation of natural gas produced from the Zohr field differs from the natural gas fields in Egypt, due to the increase in sulfur dioxide ,  so appear many environmental problems, these problems led to many changes in fishing areas, a decline in fishing rates, the number of fishermen in the governorate , Unemployment ,and new health problems such as asthma and respiratory diseases ,these problems affected of social life in the community , and social construction of the neighboring fishing villages , The study aims to identify the environmental problems associated with natural gas fields and the impact of these problems on the social construction of the fishing villages adjacent to the sites. The study relied on the descriptive analytical method, the questionnaire was used as a tool for the study , The majority of the study sample confirmed the impact of establishing companies on the quality of the environment.  Several results were obtained,
 
 

- The multiplicity of effect of establishing companies on the health of the majority of the study sample members and the health of a family member, such as: diseases respiratory, then asthma, then (shortness of breath, inflammation in the lungs,), then (anemia and malnutrition diseases).
The results of the study confirmed the multiplicity of social problems resulting from the establishment of natural gas companies neighboring the fishing villages, the main one is low income
The results of the study also confirmed the multiplicity of psychological pressures that members of society are exposed to, and the most important of these manifestations was weakness and the inability to adap
The social structure changed in terms of cohesion, as there was interdependence between the parts and elements of society, due to the similarity of career and social and economic conditions

several recommendations can be formulated, including:
- Protecting the environment from pollution and maintaining its quality, which helps provide job opportunities for fishermen.
- Existence of social protection networks that lead to securing sources of income for fishermen that help in facing the burdens of living.
