A PROPOSED PROGRAM FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY AMONG CLAY BRICK FACTORY WORKERS TO REDUCE THEIR OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS

Abstract

The aim of the present research is to develop environmental literacy among the workers of the clay-brick factories to reduce the occupational risks they are exposed to. In order to achieve this goal، reference was made to the previous studies and researches related to the subject of the study، and the use of research tools that the current study benefits from. The research counts on the semi-experimental method using research tools to conduct a survey study to find out the current status of environmental literacy of the study sample; designing as well، a scale of environmental literacy to achieve the research objectives. The sample consists of (50) factory Clay bricks workers in Qalyubia Governorate (Al Qanater Al Khayriyah City).
The research concludes with a number of the most important results as follows: Checking validity of the main hypothesis: There are statistically significant differences between the pre/post application of the environmental literacy scale، in favor of the post application. Checking the validity of the first sub-hypothesis: There are statistically significant differences between the pre/post application of the environmental knowledge and information test، in favor of the post application.
Verify the validity of the second sub-hypothesis: There are statistically significant differences between the pre/post application of the environmental attitudes scale، in favor of the post application.
The research recommendations: It is necessary to integrate environmental and health curricula within educational curricula of industrial educational institutions to produce an environmentally conscious generation، the synergy of the state agencies and activation of the supervisory control role and follow-up on industrial establishments and ensure their compliance with environmental requirements. Setting a comprehensive strategy including submit of industrial facilities to environmental training and occupational safety as a term for licensing to ensure establishing an environmentally friendly facility. Finally، increase media campaigns on environmental and health awareness to avoid risks and prevent them.
